First established a few yards north in Spring Hill Meetinghouse by Dr. Thomas Craighead, newly elected president, on arrival from North Carolina in 1786. In 1801 it moved across the river to a building on College Hill. In 1806 it became Cumberland College, later the University of Nashville, later Peabody College.
