Overton County Established 1806; named in honor of John Overton. Pioneer attorney at Nashville; close friend of Andrew Jackson. Judge of the State Supreme Court, 1804-09. Co-founder, with Jackson and General James Winchester, of the city of Memphis; he is said to have named it. Pickett County Established 1879; named in honor of Howell L. Pickett. State Representative from Wilson County in 1879. He later moved to Arizona and practiced law at Tombstone. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
