Washington's New Jersey campaign of
1776-77, and commanded the American
militia which decisively defeated
two detachments of Burgoyne's army
near Bennington, Vermont, August 16,
177. A stone marks his birthplace
on stark Road, Six-tenths of a mile
easterly on Lawrence Road.
