| StoppingPoints.com Editorial on Asbury United Methodist Church: | | In 1866 Rust College first met in the original Asbury Church. Reverend A.C. McDonald of the Freedmen's Aid Society & Reverend Moses Adams, a local minister, taught the first classes there. By 1870, the school was chartered formally under the name of Shaw University and had moved to its own site in Holly Springs. The present church building was constructed in 1891, and the structure includes a sanctuary with a divided chancel and eighteen pews. |
