The founding meeting of El Paso Council No. 638 Knights of Columbus was held in Marquette Hall of the church on 12 April 1902 with territorial deputy supreme knight John H. Reddin of Denver presiding and F. C. Buchanan of El Paso as temporary secretary. Officers were elected with D. B. Beckham as grand knight. Thus, the first knights of Columbus Council in Texas was formed through the support of many. Specifically, James Clifford and Edward V. Berrien of El Paso and Michael F. Burke of Indiana. Here to build the electric street railway. Soon, council No. 638 began promoting Columbianism in mid-Texas and trained a degree team on 8 May 1903. The group headed by deputy supreme knight E. V. Berrien, left by train and established councils in Fort Worth, Dallas, Galveston, Houston and San Antonio. So it was that from the efforts of those men assembled in this building on that April evening in 1902, and through the sturdy support of those who followed, the Knights of Columbus order was brought to and grew and serves in the state of Texas
