Amalia Historical Marker

Amalia, NM, USA

Originally founded as Pina, the mountain village was established within the 1844 Sangre de Cristo land grant by settlers who came eastward along the Rio Costilla in 1849. Others followed later from Vermejo and Valle Vidal, establishing a tradition of farming, livestock raising, timbering and commerce.
