Four-tenths of a mile east of this spot stood the Candy's Creek Cherokee Indian Mission school and church, organized by Dr. Samuel A. Worcester and other ministers from the Brainerd Mission and accepted by the Union Presbytery in 1824. The first church organized in what is now Bradley County, it was closed in 1838 when the Cherokees were removed to the west.
