The Hammond Oak (a Southern Live Oak Quercus virginiana) in Hammond, Louisiana, spreads over the burial site of Peter Hammond, the city's founder and namesake. Also buried under the oak are Hammond's wife, three daughters, and a favorite slave. It is located in the 500 block of E. Charles St., between N. Holly St. and N. Olive Street. Photo from 2004.
