As the story goes...a party of hunters come up from Knoxville an' kilt 'em a load o' bear an' drug 'em down to the head o' the creek an' skinned 'em. They tuk the meat but lef' the skins 'till they could come back atter 'em. Folk begun to talk about that creek where the bear skins are and soon hit become Bearskins Creek. Through years of use within the local dialect, the name evolved to its present form Baskins Creek.
