The Christian Church was organized in Obion County in 1848 at Old Republican Meeting House 4 miles west of Union City. Gen. G.W. Gibbs founded the city in 1854 and in 1856 gave the lot for this, the city's first church. Despite the destruction of its building by Federal troops during the Civil War and the loss of many members to cholera in the epidemic of 1873, the church survived and grew. The present building, the third on this site, was erected in 1912.
