Immediately to the east lies an old cemetery that was established at an early date along the Great Road to Twickingham, now Huntsville, Alabama, over which General Andrew Jackson and his volunteers marched in 1813 to the Creek War. Revolution ary soldiers Benjamin Porter and Benjamin Rowe, and early settler Peyton Wells, together with members of their families and many other pioneers are buried here. Prior to 1809, Wells established a grist mill, up the hollow to the south. Porter was buried here in 1828 and Rowe in 1829. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
