Rucker's Battery 1/2 Mile At the west end of a 1200-yard cemaillere, Battery No. 1 in the Confederate defenses of Island No. 10 thee 8-in Columbiads and three 32-pounders. Preventing passage of Federal vessels down-river, it withstood continuous attack for two weeks, until floodwaters forced its virtual abandonment, Apr. 2, 1862. Portions of the work are visible.
