In this gap in Bay's Mountain, John Bull, a gunsmith from Pennsylvania, settled about 1794. The last rail on the East Ten-nessee & Virginia Railroad was laid here, May 14, 1858. The gap was the scene of several heavy skirmishes during the War Between the
