Belmont was patented early in the eighteenth century by Thomas Lee, of Stratford. About 1800, Ludwell Lee, an officer in The Revolutionary army, built the house and he lived here until his death in 1836. Here he entertained Lafayette in 1825. In 1931, Belmont became the home of Patrick J. Hurley Secretary of War, 1929-1933.
