Hancock moved by it to his defeat at Burgess Mill, October 27, 1864, and in 1865, Grant moved his forces on it from the east to attack Lee's right wing. On March 29, 1865, Sheridan came to Dinwiddie Court House over it in the operations preceeding the Battle of Five Forks. Error: Note that the last sentence on the marker is incorrect, and should read: On March 29, 1865, Sheridan came to Dinwiddie Court House over it in the operations preceding the Battle of Five Forks.
