After arriving from Italy, the Rubiola family bought this land and opened a grocery in 1885. When Joseph Rubiola (1850-1889) died, his wife Franceska (1850-1918) and eight children ran the store. This building, typical of late 19th century commercial architecture, was constructed about 1899. Franceska and her sons were a strong political force in the Rock Quarry district. After Franceska died, her son Joseph (d. 1962) and his wife Adelle operated businesses here until the 1970s.
