Wilson County Established 1799; named in honor of David Wilson. Served with distinction in The Revolutionary War; later was a member of the Territorial Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1794. DeKalb County Established 1837; named in honor of Baron Johann DeKalb. The Bavarian officer who accompanied Lafayette to America in 1777. Appointed a major general in the Continental Army, he was killed at the Battle of Camden in 1780, while commanding Delaware & Maryland troops. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
