Coming from Dixon Springs, Col. John H. Morgan, with the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry, captured without a fight the Federal garrison of 200 men under Col. Boone, USA. He then destroyed the railroad bridge south of town, the tunnel six miles north, and all available rolling stock, cutting the line between Louisville and Nashville. Leaving a small detachment, he withdrew to Hartsville.
