3 miles S.E. on White's Creek, was an early iron furnace to operate south of Knoxville; built by Robert Cravens who came to Rhea County in 1828. A canal built from the creek to the Tennessee River effected shipments to St. Louis, Cincinnati, and other centers. The furnace was abandoned shortly after the Civil War.
