Morgan County
Established 1817; named in honor of

Brig. Gen. Daniel Morgan.


Veteran of the French & Indian war; second in command to Benedict Arnold on the Quebec Expedition in The Revolution ; later, a commander in the South, he decisively defeated Banastre Tarleton at Cowpens.

Scott County
Established 1849; named in honor of

General Winfield Scott.


Veteran of the War of 1812; successful commander of the southern thrust into Mexico City during the Mexican War; he served as Chief of Staff of the Army until 1862 & was military adviser to the President until his death.
