Moore County Established 1871; named in honor of Maj. Gen. William Moore. He settled in Tennessee in 1808, coming from Kentucky. Commanded a company in the Creek War; finished the War of 1812 as a Major General; Member of the State House of Representatives, 1825-27. Bedford County Established 1807; named in honor of Thomas Bedford, Jr. Thomas Bedford was a native of Virginia, a member of the Virginia Assembly, and an officer in The Revolutionary War. He moved to Tennessee around 1795 where he had obtained large tracts of land around Nashville. He later moved from Davidson to Rutherford County where he settled at Jefferson Springs, and contributed to settlement and development of Rutherford County. He died in 1804. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
