Loudon County Established 1870; named in honor of Fort Loudoun which was erected by the British in 1756 and named for the Earl of Loudoun, Commander-in-Chief of British and American colonial troops in the southern colonies during the French and Indian War. Knox County Established 1792; named in honor of Maj. Gen. Henry Knox. Washington's Chief of Artillery in The Revolutionary War. Secretary of War in Washington's Cabinet. One of the founders and first secretary of the Society of the Cincinnati. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission
