Jackson County Established 1801; named in honor of Andrew Jackson. Member of the first state Constitutional Convention, later representative in Congress and Senator; major general in the Army, victor in the Creek War, two conquests of Florida and the Battle of New Orleans in 1815; seventh President of the United States. Overton County Established 1806; named in honor of John Overton. Pioneer attorney at Nashville; close friend of Andrew Jackson. Judge of the State Supreme Court, 1804-09. Co-founder, with Jackson and General James Winchester, of the city of Memphis; he is said to have named it. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
