Here on June 23, 1841, James K. Polk, Governor of Tennessee, running for re-election debated James C. Jones, both masters of the stump speech. James ?Lean Jimmy? Jones, a Whig, who was a natural mimic and actor, defeated Polk and served as Tennessee Governor 1841-1845. James K. ?Young Hickory? Polk was nominated by the Democrats in 1844 and was elected President of the United States, serving 1845-1849.

Erected 2000 by Citizens of Dancyville and the Haywood County Historical Society.
