Tennessee State Sportsmen's Association hosted America's first public bird dog field trial near Memphis in 1874. Field trials began at Grand Junction in 1881. Various clubs hosted annual trials here. Grand Junction hosted its first National Field Trial Championship in 1900; nearby Ames Plantation soon became its permanent site. The National Bird Dog Museum, featuring pointing, flushing, and retrieving breeds, opened here in 1991. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission.
