1 1/2 miles. After its retreat into Chattanooga, Sept. 21, 1863, the Federal Army set up a signal station here, to relay messages between Chattanooga and the west brow of Walden's Ridge. The communication chain extended to the Federal supply base at Bridgeport, Ala.
