Breaking camp near Ooltewah Gap, in this vicinity, on June 4th, 1540, DeSoto's expedition, on June 4th and 5th, moved southward, passing the site of the city of Chattanooga and going around the north flank of Lookout Mountain. His route followed the Great War and Trading Path.
