Gibson County Established 1823; named in honor of Col. John Gibson, who served with distinction under General Andrew Jackson in the Natchez Expedition, 1812-13, and in the Creek Wars. Weakley County Established 1823; named in honor of of Robert Weakley. Member of the North Carolina Constitutional Convention; Tennessee House of Representatives, 1796; Colonel of Militia and Speaker of the State Senate. Member of Congress.
