Fentress County
Established 1823; named in honor of

James Fentress.


Then speaker of the state House of Representatives, an office which he held for four terms.


Morgan County
Established 1817; named in honor of

Brig. Gen. Daniel Morgan.


Veteran of the French & Indian war; second in command to Benedict Arnold on the Quebec Expedition in The Revolution ; later, a commander in the South, he decisively defeated Banastre Tarleton at Cowpens.
