Two miles east on Cumberland River was Neely's Lick, later called Larkin's Sulphur Spring. Here, in the fall of 1780 William Neely was killed and his daughter Mary captured by Indians. Carried by her captors to Michigan, she escaped after two years, and made her way to New York State, and thehce eventually to her home here.
