100 yards south, Maj. William Wilson built a tavern in 1800. Among the many notables who stopped here were Presidents Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson. Other distinguished guests included Henry Clay, Governor Sam Houston, and Governor James C. Jones. The building burned in 1951.
