Born June 2, 1863, in a log cabin about ½ mi. N., he studied law at Charlotte, later began practice at Camden. Attorney general of the 13th Judicial District, 1908 ~ 12, he was the last Tennessee governor to be elected by a convention. Inaugurated Jan. 17, 1915, serving two terms, he was later Chancellor of the 8th Division. He died Sept. 12, 1953, and is buried in Paris.
