Bedford County
Established 1807; named in honor of

Thomas Bedford, Jr.


Thomas Bedford was a native of Virginia, a member of the Virginia Assembly, and an officer in The Revolutionary War. He moved to Tennessee around 1795 where he had obtained large tracts of land around Nashville. He later moved from Davidson to Rutherford County where he settled at Jefferson Springs, and contributed to settlement and development of Rutherford County. He died in 1804.

of the Revolutionary Army; appointed by President Washington as a member of the Legislature for the Southwest Territory, which later became the State of Tennessee.
