Pueblo of Taos

In 1540 parts of Taos were occupied by Hernando de Alvarado. Taos served as the headquarters from which Popé, of the San Juan Pueblo, organized the Pueblo Revolt in 1680. In 1846, the pueblo was a refuge for Hispanics and Indians resisting annexation of New Mexico by the United States.

Taos Pueblo was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.
