In August 1680, the Rio Grande, Hopi, Taos and Picuris pueblos, and the Tewa towns of San Juan, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara, Pojoanque, Name and Tesuque revolted against the Spanish government. On August 15, they laid siege to Santa Fe and expelled the Spanish from New Mexico.
