Here revolutionary forces of Francisco (Pancho) Villa attacked on March 9th, 1916, burning much of the town and killing civilians and soldiers. From here General "Black Jack" Pershing pursued Villa into Mexico. His expedition of 10,000 men made first military use of mechanized equipment and airplanes.
