Orchard Ranch, one of New Mexico's most spectacular horticultural enterprises, established by Melvin W. Mills of Springer was notable for its skillfully engineered irrigation system. Vegetable gardens and fruit trees flourished until a destructive flood wiped out orchards and buildings in 1904.
