Pajarito on the Camino Real

In the 17th century, the Spanish established a series of farming and ranching communities, called estancias, along the western bank of the Rio Grande. The Camino Real normally followed the east bank of the river, but a western branch of the road was developed along what is now Isleta Boulevard.
