In 1836, along with business partners, Henderson acquired 15,000 acres in the area and helped promote and develop Pass Christian until his death in 1857. In 1903, descendants of Sen. Henderson formed the Mexican Gulf Land Co. to promote Henderson's Point as a planned community.
